Vacancy for a Planning Director

To work on a mix of new business and existing clients

Working closely with the Managing Partners, Senior Creative teams, Digital experts and Data Analysts, proactively lead the strategic thinking on client accounts. To bring an understanding of customers, brands, digital and social media and categories to the client’s business challenges. To generate insights that help formulate effective strategic and communications proposals. To be an evangelist for CRM and digital, both within and outside the agency in a way that inspires forward thinking and great creative work.

The successful applicant will be working primarily on one of the UK’s most famous high street brands that is going from strength to strength, boasting a customer base of millions and continually challenging their sector with new service and product offerings. They will also get the chance to work on a global FMCG and leisure and travel clients, so an ability to immerse quickly and apply their experience across a number of sectors is vital.

Key Responsibilities

Understand the business model your client operates within, how they are structured, how they make money and future opportunities for the agency.
Fully explore the client brief. Clarify communications challenges and opportunities; distil objectives and measurement criteria, and to shape the brief with the client if not clear.
Develop effective communications strategies and plans from sell in to client to delivery in detail.
Develop relevant and efficient measurement frameworks – including CRM, and digital effectiveness, working closely with the data planning and experience.
Evaluate results, draw conclusions and learnings and make recommendations that help consistently improve our work.
The development of test and learn plans to continually optimise and improve clients communications – and seeing them through
The development of complex targeting models and business cases
Provide a deep understanding of how target consumers consume all forms of media (email, mobile, social, traditional media), and how this should impact our response in terms of driving immediate and longer-term opportunities.
Keep pace with the evolving communications landscape and regularly hold inspiration sessions with clients and the agency. As part of this, organise and run inspirational training sessions.
Explore what a great customer experience (across all touchpoints) should look like for the client, and be capable of convincing the client to put this into practice on a consistent basis.
Take responsibility together with client services for the commercial impact of any strategic recommendations – from both the client’s perspective and our own as a business.
As appropriate, work closely with, creative, technologists, data or media planners, analysts and the client, to ensure we use digital (in all its forms) effectively to deliver against the brief and build the brand in the most appropriate manner.
Either contribute to, or, in the main, facilitate entirely, brainstorms to develop a wide range of potential responses to the brief.
Input to or develop insightful, concise, inspiring creative briefs and creative briefing sessions. Work with creative teams through the process to help develop the best possible creative work.
When appropriate, work closely with media agencies and advertising agencies, looking to develop a close relationship with their Planners.
Become involved with creating a thriving internal planning culture and help develop the planning team, contributing to and leading inspiration sessions, thought leadership papers and blogs (agency and personal).

People Management

Experience of managing and developing more junior members of a team would be beneficial
Financial/ Time Management
Responsible for completion of own time sheets and expenses claims.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required for the Role
We would expect a person in this role to have around 6 years plus planning experience either in an integrated CRM agency or digital agency.

Strong CRM, Digital and Data experience is essential. We want someone that lives and breathes customer experience in CRM and digital in their own life and who is a natural enthusiast.

Gravitas and credibility will be key facets of the successful applicant, able to influence and add value in any meeting, including board level. A compelling presentation style, in terms of both content and delivery, will also be expected of the successful applicant.

A proven track record in delivering outstanding thinking at senior client and agency level, and ability to take complex tasks and produce simple yet compelling strategies and tactics.

Craft skills

? Ability to handle research data from a variety of sources (some quantitative, others qualitative)
? Strong grasp of what’s possible, and what’s coming in the marketing landscape
? Strong facilitation skills
? Skilled at writing creative briefs, presentations and proposals
? A detailed understanding of customer behaviour in relation to digital & technology and able to translate this into actionable insight and activity for clients
? Able to define and set up most appropriate measurement techniques (including social media)
? Understands best practice integration and how to implement this effectively
